about

Composed by Jacob Williamson
Produced, Engineered and Recorded by Jacob Thro
at The Deltaville Octagon and The Wrightsville Barn
between 2014-2015

I wrote out the songs in parts on the guitar and Dennis, Jim, Thro and I met for tracking in the Deltaville Octagon. I showed them my bass part and wrote the chords up for each section and let everyone just play what they wanted. We played together, recording live as a band for every part on the album. Later on, Thro and I went through all these snippets and pieced the songs together by splicing the whole band together, similar to how "Bitches Brew" was arranged. This kept that live room sound we loved so much intact. Then I finished the lyrics to fit the new sounds on my own and Thro and I met a few more times to overdub vocals and sounds. It was all about the process and I tried to encourage everyone to make it their own as much as possible. I had no expectations and let creativity lead the formation of the album. I hope you feel that.

Thank you. Alison, for reminding me that deep down,
I'm still in overalls on the farm.
Dad, Mom, my brother and sisters for your constant support and love.
Butch, for use of the Deltaville Octagon. Ben, I hope you like "Leaves"!
Zoe and Harper, may you create the life you want like "Stars".
Zoe, your art is like hot coffee on a cold mountain.
North 9, you are an incredible team, it is a priviledge.
Jake, your easy genius and unconditional support made this album possible.
Dennis and Jim, that first music in Deltaville was perfect, I'm so glad you were there.
Brad, thanks for lending your hand, we are still ol' South Anna boys.
Everyone, lets go ride bikes!

Track Name: Leaves
I’ve got a good idea said the boy,
as he aimed his feet
out the door with screens
and stepped into the darkness filled with joy.

Don’t step on the leaves and make a sound,
he reminded me
of the times that we
would sneak on Dad when he got home from work.

Follow me,
watch out for those things
and veer off where you please
let the good Lord guide you when you’re lost.
Don’t be scared,
you’re stronger than before
truer where you’ve learned
and shining light on everyone you know.

Later on we struck a fire and lost our minds
it was real life then
and we realized when
our parents fell apart like old wood floors.

Don’t step in the holes and lose your shoe
its a funny thought
how we’re better off
having lived to speak the lessons that we knew.

Always bring a lighter for the unlit ones
Smoke upon a pipe that's made of gold
Let the simple friendships last a real long time
and let the hard ones run their course.
Track Name: Stars
This is where you find out where you’re going
Its not the road
Maybe you can find it in the stars
You’ll have to look all night
And own the right
To find a place to sit amongst the clouds

don't believe the things they’ve always said
it isn't fair
hold on to your guns as you find out
you’ll have to scream and shout
as you gather clout
to make it hard for those below to climb

just remember that's not all that bad
there's beauty there
the perfection of the chase and of the kill
its a gorgeous life
and worth the fight
got a thousand generations at your back

lets go for a ride
you got the wind in your hair
find what we want
when we pedal there
take your hands off the bars
let the road guide you on
the gravel is rough
but the scene is right on
take the smoke from our heads
and the sweat from our brow
pour it into our art
and leave it for the crowds
riding diamonds and hoops
packing brushes and paints
plucking steel upon wood
we will live out our days!
Track Name: Tried to Walk
i tried to walk
and pace myself
but now im good and angry
i’m off the shelf

we’re coming for you
you best watch out
i’m bringing my friends
and they’re freaking out

when blood and fortune
go one on one
the fight is brutal
its to the bone

i’m rolling over
up in this grave
you said its over
but you misbehaved

wont you come and take this up?
bring your guns and bring your stuff
we’re blowing up the things they love
while sleeping on a bed of skulls

you could be the one to save us
you could be the one that takes us away
you could be the one that gets us
you could be the one that ends all our days

I’ll just be getting my tan on
as we burn up the clouds
and I’ll ride this ship to the bottom
theres no escape now
Track Name: South Anna
In the slow moving waters of the river
that runs back behind our land
we’d go up and fish for a bit there
and float back when Mom called us in

sometimes I’d just sit in that old boat
tied to a tree past the rocks
pretend to myself i was fishing
but i was just lost in my thoughts

its a strange fast ride on this planet
and I’m just trying to hold on
just as we realize our purpose
its already time to go home
we better just hope our kids know

I grab your hand
I'm so so scared
you’re quiet
I’m quiet

are you in there?
can you hear me?
just let go
don't worry

let the current take you
nothing more left to do
you’ve got this
don't worry

in that quiet little patch near the tree line
i sit and i take it in
i feel the speed of the earth moving forward
and the weight of my soul within
i guess you could call this a joy ride
we’re feeling the ups and the downs
but as we roll into the finish
we’re just glad to have gotten around
Track Name: Words We Choose
you can say it as you please
any words you like
I’ll know what you mean
you just gotta say it right

of all the words to choose
none of them are nice
so leave a little out
and say it with your eyes

I’ve got all day long
for you to sing your song
the words we choose are wrong
to stand for what we want

take a little piece of me on your way
find out where you’re going and leave me to stay
it isn’t what it is or what never was
its only who we are and how we choose love

if you fall and get more than a banged up knee
you can call, and get more than the answering machine
all in all we're in the big bull run
when I fall, it's the bull that's done
